This Is How We Disappear draws inspiration from the logic-defying and dynamic world of the atom, juxtaposing the behaviors and patterns of that unseen level of existence with our own experience of human relationships, fraught with frailty, tension and tenderness. Dancers Jesse Berdine and Jessica Hightower embody Suniti Dernovsek’s unique movement vocabulary, marked by intricacy and expressiveness, to explore the idiosyncrasies and profound similarities of these two worlds. This is how we Disappear features sound, composed/generated by Jesse Mejia and real time video by Brian Richardson. The shape, direction and velocity of the dancers’ movements are captured using simple sensors, which in turn create parameters for live video and audio response. Together, the collaborators create a live, interactive performance that blends movement, visual art, sound and technology, to reveal the invisible reality that surrounds us.
